Mulcair Credit Union is a strong €40m credit union based in Newport, Co Tipperary, with 8 staff serving 7,000 members from its head office in Newport and sub-offices in Murroe and Rearcross.  It is recruiting a new Chief Executive Officer to sustain its long history of excellent and committed member service and business development as well as financial success.

Reporting directly to the Board, the successful candidate will be responsible for implementing the credit union’s ambitious growth strategy to the highest performance and ethical standards within the credit union’s risk tolerances and all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will have a solid academic background and bring strong and demonstrable

  • experience of the credit union sector,
  • history of professional achievement
  • levels of energy & professionalism,
  • communication skills,
  • understanding of credit union financial dynamics and Key Performance & Risk Indicators,
  • knowledge of fintech payment systems and trends,
  • sales/marketing experience incorporating social media,
  • expertise in business support tools, whether Microsoft or otherwise,
  • HR management skills and
  • experience in strategy & business model development.

Candidates without a credit union background who can offer solid experience of business growth and development in another regulated financial services sector will also be considered.  Direct Central Bank exposure, as well the Minimum Competency qualifications necessary to deliver retail services and products would be distinct advantages.

Mulcair Credit Union Union currently has a vacancy for the position of Teller/Member Services Officer.

Mulcair Credit Union is seeking applications from self-motivated individuals who want to be part of a growing organisation. Applicants should be committed to achieving high
standards and have a flexible approach to work.

General Scope of the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out a range of administrative and operational activities that contribute to the effective running of the credit union. This is a
full-time position, working hours Monday to Saturday (closed on Wednesday).

Main Purpose of the Role

The position will require assisting members with all aspects of Credit Union Business while working as part of a team to provide admin and support in dealing with:

  • Service to members across multiple delivery channels including over the counter, telephone and online
  • Account transactions
  • Account queries
  • Member applications
  • Loan applications
  • AML

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Excellent attention to detail and administration skills
  • Experience working in a role within a credit union or similar financial institution ideal but not essential as full training will be provided
  • Excellent customer service, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong teamwork ability.
  • Ability to use discretion and sensitivity in dealing with members
  • Ability to make decisions and take responsibility
  • Knowledge and understanding of the ethos of Credit Unions
  • QFA/CUA, relevant diploma or degree ideal but not essential, minimum leaving certificate required.

Most respected provider of financial services

Credit unions have been recognised as the most highly regarded financial services organisation in the Ireland RepTrak® 2021 study carried out by The Reputations Agency. Credit unions took second place in the overall study with an overall score of 84.9. Bord Bia took the top spot while An Post took third place in the overall study.

Credit Unions were placed first in Governance and in Citizenship – two important drivers of reputation. In the analysis of brand personality traits that most closely correlated with reputation, credit unions came first in Friendly and Genuine amongst the 100 organisations that were studied.

The Ireland RepTrak® 2021 study is based on a survey of over 6,500 members of the public which gathered data on the levels of trust, respect, admiration and esteem they have for organisations in Ireland.

Speaking about the achievement, ILCU President, Helene McManus said: “We are delighted to celebrate this good news and congratulate Irish credit unions for their consistently high performance in the RepTrak survey. It really is a fantastic achievement to consistently remain in the top two for the past three years. It has been an incredibly difficult year for all organisations and businesses. Credit unions all around the country have remained a cornerstone of their local communities and continue to go above and beyond for their members.”

Commenting on the significance of this year’s results, Niamh Boyle, Managing Director, The Reputations Agency said: “Pride in Irish indigenous organisations increased average Reputation Pulse score by close to four points, with a five-point increase in Innovation, but with increases in Citizenship, Governance and Workplace scores also driving this increase. For the first time in 12 years, the reputation of the 53 Irish indigenous organisations (average 71.6) overtook the 47 multinationals organisations (average 70.9) that were studied.”

Energy Communities Tipperary Cooperative CLG are a community led, home insulation upgrade and retrofitting organisation. They are a designated Sustainable Energy Community (SEC) with the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI).

They are leverage funding from the SEAI and provide a One Stop Shop service which takes the hassle out of getting grant aid, sourcing contractors and overseeing projects for the homeowners.

As part of their One Stop Shop offering, they have teamed up with Credit Unions to assist the people of Tipperary enhance their homes and lives in conjunction with our award winning retrofit service provider team.
